Not just another blog, but a "Howard Powered" one!

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Science Dog ColorsOur boy Jason Howard has decided to join the world of blogging. He started a blog to announce any upcoming projects that he may or may not be working on.

Jason is an incredible artist and I’ve had the pleasure of watching him grow better at what he does. I’ve known him for quite a few years now and he’s just gotten better by “leaps and bounds”. He’s a really nice guy too, so if you ever get the chance to talk to him, do so. He always has much to say and share with others.

Well as Jason himself says, “[If] you’re bored, or just looking for another way to waste some time when you should be working, here you go.”

Check it out and enjoy.

Man Versus Board

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Silly artists! Jason went and mislabeled his most recent post. That isn’t Silver Age Switchboard. It’s Silver Age Switchman, who is the son of the original Switchman, and the father of the character that Rapid City readers will get to know as Switchboard.

I like these three characters quite a bit and I really hope that I get a chance to tell their stories in greater detail.

The mantle that Switchboard takes up is one way that we are showing readers that Rapid City exists in a much wider world.

[SKETCHBOOK] Silver Age Switchboard Switchman

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

Wow, it’s been two weeks since I posted anything. Things at the day job have been crazy this month so far. We are moving our office and I’ve been heavily involved in the dealing with the contractors working on our new space and helping coordinate the move. So lately I’ve been wiped out by days end. Luckily the end is in sight, we are moving into the new space next weekend. So even though this week is going to be probaby the craziest so far, I’m going to make every effort to get myself back on track and get some more pages done.

In the meantime, here’s a sketch of Switchman.

Enjoy.

[SKETCHBOOK] Mira and Hector

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Ok, here is a sketch that took place over 3 day period. The first two days really don’t count, because each time I sat down to sketch and started I was extremely exhausted from the days events that I really didn’t do much. I just felt like I needed to “wash the day away” and decided to draw.

So I started this sketch of Mira Vega and Hector (formerly the LT). So on the third day I finished it. But when I finished it I felt like it was seriously off in certain areas. I showed Josh and Micah and received feedback. I felt like I had/have to correct it, so I’m going to redo this sketch. So Josh suggested a ‘before & after” posting. Well here it is.

First attempt:

Wassup, Kalamazoo?

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Rapid City is a fictional version of Kalamazoo, Michigan, where I lived for about ten years. While I was there, I attended Western Michigan University.

For a short time, I drew a weekly comic strip called “Josho Adventures” for the Western Herald. It was poorly drawn, and mainly featured lame inside jokes and references. Some people liked it, and the amazingly talented Paul Sizer once described it using the word “intelligent”.

Anyway, last week, the Herald ran a column about us and our comic book. It was pretty cool, but they got the web address wrong.

They were cool enough, however, to run a correction. So, welcome to all of my K-zoo homies who heard about us through the Herald and are checking us out for the first time.

Please, enjoy. And if you happen by The Rocketstar, tell Evil Bill that I said “hi”.

October

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

This going to be a big month.

Summer, cruel summer, is finally dead!

In all seriousness, now that I don’t have to spend 90% of my energy fighting the heat I can feel that energy flowing to where it needs to be. At the keyboard.

There is just something about Autumn, it is energizing. Summer makes me lazy and bitter, but Autumn sharpens me. Maybe it is some sort of primal preparation for winter. Who knows?

I can tell you this, we are all feeling right now. Like some huge shape over our heads, behind our backs, about to slam down around us.

Ok, back to work!

Had a weird day after my last posting. We received some bad news.

So here’s a sketch dedicated to a fallen hero. Rest in peace.
