[SNEAK PEEK] Promo Art.

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Here’s some promo art I’ve been working on for the Motor City Con. As you know from Josh and Jason we are working to get a lot done for the show. So this is part of my contribution. I’m pretty happy with how these turned out and so are Josh and Jason. I suppose it’s time I gave Jason back his “Mojo” now. hehe.

Any ways take a look and enjoy.

Love, Micah.

Don't tell Josh.

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

For a look at what is infuencing our creative processes, here’s a look at some of the TV, movies, games, and music we are enjoying.

Minus The Bear

Don’t tell Josh, but I snuck out of the studio tonight with my girlfriend Mandy. I broke free of the “shackles” of my drawing table and went to a concert. We saw “Minus The Bear” play at the “Blind Pig” in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wow, what a great show. “Minus The Bear” along with “Chin Up, Chin Up” and “Russian Circles” had great performances. Mandy and I caught the tail end of “Russian Circles” set, and from what I heard it was pretty good. I had not heard of “Chin Up, Chin Up” before tonight and I must say they played a great set and they now have a new fan. “Minus the Bear” wow, I hope to see them play live again soon, because they just blew me away. Incredible band with a lot of energy. A real treat to hear live. Go check them out.

Also I promise to have some good stuff for everyone to look at tomorrow (today?). Plan to add a new feature to the blog called “Sketch Pad”, where you can see some of our “raw” work. A new eNewsletter should be going out in the next day or so too, with an exclusive sneak peak for those that have signed up. So keep your eyes pealed for some exciting stuff.

Run-up to Motor City Con

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

Ok, in actuality, I can see that Motor City Con is a ways off. May 19th. But it feels like it is right here. We have all been busting @$$ to get ready for it. I think that is why it is looming like Christmas, because of all of the energy that is going into the preparation for it.

Jason and Micah are cranking out amazing artwork. Pages for the ‘Rapid City’ preview book, as well as all of the design stuff that will become our booth on the con floor. We have swerved around a few little bumps in the road. And just like our lead character ‘Viper’, the more you hit us with, the stronger we get. I am thinking they might post some of that stuff here pretty soon.

I have been spending these past few days trying to train myself into intense-writer mode. It is working. I have tried a few tricks, and they have worked. I am pretty proud of what is getting done. And I now have to carry my laptop with me everywhere I go. Just in case.

These are exciting times.

The Black Angels Passover album cover

So today I recieved an early present in the mailbox. Just got the new “Passover” album from The Black Angels in the mail. Man does is it rock! I highly recommend it. I have their earlier released EP too, and let me say those 4 incredible tracks blew me away. Was well worth the money spent. These guys are incredible and I couldn’t wait for this CD to be released (April 11th).

A huge thanks to the guys and gals at Light in the Attic Records for a much anticipated surprise.

This one is going into heavy rotation here in the studio.

[SNEAK PEEK] Shady characters.

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Micah, Jason, and I are all hard at work on producing our preview book for the Motor City Comic Convention. You can see in the previous entry how Jason’s pencils are looking. Well, Micah has been trying to put together the panels that will form the frame narrative. Without revealing too much, it is a conversation between two characters.

This was an early version…..

It seemed to stiff. The body language just wasn’t affectionate enough. So Micah went back to work.

And came up with this……

Which became this…..

frame_outrov5.jpg

Stunning, but now TOO affectionate.

So he went back to the page. Keep in mind, this is all being done in the space of a few hours.

And then this image showed up in our discussion forum. There is just so much warmth and drama in this image I am going to feel clumsy and stupid gumming it up with a bunch of words.

I tell you, it is great just watching this process unfold. But being a part of it….I can’t even find the words. This is great.
