Rapid City

Mock Rapid City cover

“Regret is a hard thing to live with, but a harder thing to die with.”

Rapid City is a maxi-series comic book encompassing several smaller story arcs. The super heroic adventures in these stories are loosely inspired by writer Josh Dahl’s experiences in the Kalamazoo punk rock music scene. Characters like Spade, Wraith and Sidekick represent bands, attitudes toward music, and even specific individuals.

Rapid City is the story of one hero, Viper, returning home to search for a friend who has mysteriously vanished. To do this, he must team up with old friends, face terrible new threats, and rediscover everything that Rapid City taught him about being a superhero.

Rapid City embraces an ever-expanding cast of characters including:

  • Viper, the conflicted hero who converts energy directed against him into strength and invulnerability.
  • Red Lion, a primeval god of destruction, seeking a destiny other than the one he was given.
  • Sidekick, a punk rocker immune to all but self-inflicted harm.
  • Hector, an elite military commando turned mercenary who treats superpowers as weaknesses.
  • Switchboard, carrying on her grandfather’s super heroic legacy by re-imagining the role of the superhero.
  • Wraith, a murdered cop brought back to half-life to patrol the city’s darkest streets.

Rapid City will be available through the MONOLITH website and through local comic book retailers.
